Skinology: Summer to Fall maintenance

Now I'm no skin specialist but I do know I am not the only one who struggles when seasons begin to change.

Just a bit of background on my skin, I am labelled under the oily-to-combination skin category. Personally, I am extremely oily in the summer time and depending on the fall/winter season I can be in between with dry spots so I really have to watch how my skin reacts on a regular basis.

Lately, my skin has been reacting to a few things; the mugginess in New York City really did a number on my skin, the up and down weather in Toronto has also made it confused and factors such as my smoking and stress level has caused my skin to react during this change in season.

If you sound like me, I have a secret to tell you guys and it only contains 4 products that have really changed the way my skin has been. All for the better of course!

1. Charcoal phyto powder in cleansing foam by The Face Shop: This is a deep cleansing face wash that contains charcoal for thorough cleansing which absorbs everything that get stuck in between your pores. This is what I used to wash all my make-up off after the day is done!

2. Tea Tree Water by LUSH: This toner has really changed the balance of my skin from day to night. It contains antibacterial tea tree, astringent grapefruit and balancing juniper berry to keep any skin disasters at bay! I use this at night after my face has been cleansed and in the morning before putting my primer on. The mist applicator makes it easy to apply and it really hydrates your face.

3. Cupcake fresh face mask by LUSH: If you're familiar with this face mask, not only does it smell good but it is specifically for oily skin! I can usually tell or feel when my skin is about to freak out so I use this mask right when I can sense it (itching and random red spots are also sure sign that my skin is unhappy). I apply a generous amount and leave it on for 15 minutes and i kid you not, my skin calms down for the rest of the month!

4. Chia Seed make-up remover by The Face Shop: This eye and lip make-up remover is so light and easy to use that it has been the only one that I have every tried that did not cause me to have a reaction of any sort. I usually apply 3-4 coats of mascara to give the illusion that I have eyelashes so image how hard it is to take eye make-up off! It's also water base so there's not much chemicals involved.

These 4 products have really transformed my skin care routine and it's definitely been keeping my skin happy during this summer/fall weather we've been having in Toronto.

What are some of your favorite products to use during this transition period? Leave a comment below!

New York Minute

I recently turned 25 on the 17th of  September and decided that this year, I'm taking a mini vacation with a few of my friends and where better to go than one of my favourite cities in  the world, New York!

OOTD: Birkenstocks, Ripped boyfriend jeans from Tommy Hilfiger,  Plain Black T-shirt from Old Navy, Shawl from H&M, Sunglasses by Raybans, Purse by Marc by Marc Jacobs

I was in the city for 4 days and 3 nights and did all the tourristy things possible. It was a great way to ring in my Quarter Century. Walked from Manhattan to Brooklyn through the Brooklyn Bridge, ate at Shake Shack, walked on 5th Avenue, Birthday dinner and a walk on Times Square and last but not least, dinner in Jersey with my family. Not to mention, one of my amazing friends surprised me with concert tickets to The Weeknd's king of the fall's tour featuring my favourite Jhene Aiko and her favourite, Schoolboy Q at the Barclays Centre!

Safe to say, I had an amazing Birthday weekend and I am clearly having vacation withdrawals!

Talk soon guys!

Dear Summer ....

My life has been in constant change and adjustment lately and I feel like I've abandoned my blog but I haven't! Just a bit of a life update, I quit my job of 6 years to pursue another opportunity. If you haven't already known, my career of choice is the retail industry and recently I have rejoined a company just in time for my 7th year anniversary and have gotten a promotion. So yes, there has been a lot going on!

The past Monday, I got to enjoy the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) and have some sort of summer for one day! The weather was perfect and I got to hung out with my sister who I usually fight with so, it was a win-win situation.

We ate some carnival foods, rode some rides and walked the entire day! It was a reminder that summer is still here but summer is ending.

Enjoy the rest of our Summer and I'll be back to a regular posting schedule soon!

May / June Faves

Pardon the delay on these favorites but there definitely has been a lot going on in my life - I'll save that for another blog post. I've decided to put my May and June faves together even though I know June is still quiet fresh. So, let's get started!

1. Caudalie Paris Grape Water - At first I wasn't going to pick this up when I was at Murale but the Sales Rep really got me thinking and I was in a midst of changing my toner. Safe to say, after a months use it has changed my daily skin routine. 2-3 sprays around my face and it gets the job done. It's a quick and light skin refresher that also keeps my face moisturized.

2. Benefit Boi-ing Concealer - Last month my skin was really freaking out and it freaked out even more as I put my regular foundation on so I had to say good-bye to it! I had a trial size of this concealer and it has high coverage. I use it to cover my dark and red spots and will not be wearing foundation for the duration of the Spring/Summer season. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way!

3. Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette - I don't normally wear a lot of eye shadow but really wanted a quality palette that had all the colors I needed for a day time and night time look. I won't lie, the Naked palettes really intimidated me but I liked a few colors. I'm also not a fan of too much sparkle so this was the perfect size and had the perfect color range for what I was looking for!

4. Urban Decay De-slick Oil Control Setting Spray - All I got to say is, THANK YOU to my girl Mal! This forever keeps my make up looking good for up to 8 hours and it's the only setting spray that never broke me out, so two thumbs up for Urban Decay!

5. Kate Spade Leather Card Holder - I said good bye to my full zip accordion wallet and I have never been happier. During the Spring/Summer season I tend to wear smaller/nano bags and a card holder is perfect to put in to any size bag. I mean, what do you really need? License, debit and credit!

6. Rebecca Minkoff 5-zip in Nude - I honestly was pining over the mini MAC for the longest time but I got this bag for such a great price I couldn't resist. I slowly fell in love with the buttery leather and the size of it as I wore it more and more. What made it worth my while was it had silver hardware - I'm a silver gal so this was perfect!

7. The Original Boyfriend Chronograph Watch by Fossil - I was on the hunt for this particular watch for awhile. It has glitz on the inside and has the mother of pearl face and when I found it, you best believe I bought it! It's the perfect size and the links fit on my wrist perfectly! Worth the hunt and worth the wait!

8. RayBan Aviators with Mirror Lenses - To be honest, I was hesitant to buy these sunglasses because I have the same pare with the regular black lenses but oh man! These are life changing - they take any of my outfits to the next level and if it's my only accessory, best believe it makes a statement. Plus, it's on trend!

April Faves

This is coming in quiet late (more like 7 days late) but it's a quick and short month for favourites, so let's begin!

MAC Face and Body Foundation: At the end of February my sister, mom and I went to the ever so popular Estee Lauder/MAC sale. I got a 4 fluid ounce of foundation in N5 for $20 - It has light to medium coverage but you definitely need to build it to cover any harsh blemishes or use it over top of your concealer. It's been great and lets my skin breathe.

- Caramel Iced Coffees from McDonalds: Ever since the dollar drinks came back I've been gravitating towards a Medium Caramel iced coffee for $1.05 it's been a saviour on days that I don't want to make my own coffee. With the weather getting better, I won't need hot coffee any longer!

- Bellini Cafe Candle: I'm so sad I burned through this scent, I love the light smell so much! You can't really go wrong with BBW 3-wick candles.

- Clinique repairwear intensive eye cream: During the winter I was struggling with crows feet on my eyes and dry splotches! This has been helping me with my tired, dry eyes! Highly recommended.

- Nivea Lip Butter Original: I stole this from my sister, working at a drug store has it's perks! Specially when it comes to cosmetics (or lip care).  This lip balm is extremely hydrating but Nivea has yet to disappoint me anyway.

- First Said Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: Holy grail of cream, enough said! Go to Sephora and buy it NOW!

- Bumble and Bumble Surfspray:I've lusted over this for so long and my good friend Melody gifted it to me during last Christmas annual Kris Kringle. When my hair is feeling a little limp and lifeless, a few sprits on my ends give it that grunge-texture of tossed hair that I love!

- Loyal by Chris Brown: I'm not sure why I love this song so much but if you haven't heard it yet, here's the video: click here

What's In My Emergency Kit?

Working in retail, you're always on the go - working at different stores, extended days, short or long commutes and so on. I've worked in retail for 6 (going on 7) years and I always find that I leave something so essential at home that I have an ever growing perma-emergency kit in my purse. By readers demand, I'm sharing my emergency kit 'must-have's'

1. Hair ties, bobby pins and hair clips: An assortment would be great, specially when you're constantly putting your hair up. I can't stress enough how many times I've forgotten a hair tie (or pins and clips) when doing a visual merchandising flip. Trust me, as a woman, it's essential!

2. Wet Wipes: I've purchased a small packages of wipes from h&m for less than $2. It's great during long days of open-closes and handy to take your make-up off whenever possible.

3. Lighter: It's not only for cigarettes, it will come in handy whenever, where ever! Just watch - you'll need it.

4. Ricola/Lozenges: Honestly, with this weird weather in Toronto, you'll never know when your throat will start to itch.

5. A pad/Tampon: Ladies, you know mother nature likes to come when it pleases - you'll know the date, but not the time. Plus how many times has a fellow woman ask for one? It's a great 'just in case' item to have.

6. Contact Lenses Eye-Drops: I wear my contacts for up to 12 hours a day. You can imagine how dry my eyes will get at the end of the day - it's also great to refresh them mid day and keep them moisturized.

7. Contact Lenses Case: Just in case your eyes get itchy and need to switch over to your glasses - Let's be real these are #blindpeopleproblems

8. Oil Blotting Papers: This is essential ladies, let`s be real! Whether you have dry skin or oily skin, you can`t deny the build up during the day.

9. Benadryl: Allergy season = sneezing = pollen = swollen eyes = itchy throat and everything else in between!

Not in photo:
There are two essential items that I have run out of in my emergency kit that I think everyone should carry around in their purse:

10. Tylenol/Advil: Headaches? Yes I get them ever so often and in my line of work, I can't just go home because my head is pounding so this is definitely an emergency kit MUST HAVE!

11. Band-aids: I always carry 2-4, I mean those news shoes don't break themselves in, right ladies?

March Faves

It's monthly favourite times again, so let's get started!

- Hoola by Benefit Plush Lip gloss: If you ask anyone I work with, I've been continuously applying this on my lips every chance I get. There's something about this lip gloss that really keeps it's shine while moisturising your lips and keeping it feeling like silk! (10/10)

- Game of Thrones: I honestly couldn't get through the first season without falling asleep during some parts but WOW! I am hooked and waiting for Season 4 like the rest of you. I finished Season 1 to 3 in the span of 2 weeks. I can't believe I didn't watch/follow it sooner. (10/10)

- styLIZed by Liz Uy: Liz is a Filipino fashion stylist and social icon. When my mom was in the Philippines for vacation, I asked her to pick up this book for me and it has definitely given a few ideas on styling simple pieces in my closet. She share her 10 style essentials and puts a twist to each one. (9/10)

- Alder Vest by Roots Canada: This product was love at first sight! It comes in the military green colour which continues to be a wardrobe staple and it has amazing detail! You guys need to check this out for yourself, it does wonders to any plain outfit or you could wear it over a sleek leather coat for layer and the illusion of a leather sleeved spring jacket. (10/10)

-Voluminous False Fiber Lashes by L'Oreal: My cousin Mare gave this to me for Christmas along with other things that were essentials/faves and after giving it the longest trial run known to woman, I am definitely in love with it! It gives my truly non-existent lashes the boost they need  to be visible and full. I pair it with the Smashbox Extend-a-lash! (10/10)

- Simple Moisturising Facial Wash: I was gifted this face wash but you should all know by now, Simple products keep it like it is and does what it says it would! Safe to say, this has definitely been saving my skin this pro-longed Canadian winter season (8/10)

- Body Flow classes at GoodLife: I've been consistently going to the gym since mid January and the progress is slow but there! I've really been enjoying a particular class which is the Body Flow class at Goodlife. It's a mixture of Yoga and Pilates and has really transformed by balance and zen in life. A great way to stretch after a work out as well! (10/10)

- Essence XXXL Shine Lip Gloss: I have this gloss in the colour "Nude Candy" which gives my lips life! What I love about this is it's a nude pink tone with just enough shine to really accentuate your lips. I could get away with just using this without lip stick underneath and it's less than $3 (8/10)

- Pond's Dry Skin Cream: I've been using this as my first step when taking off my make-up. A lot of YouTube guru's use the Cold Cream with wipes so I decided to see if it would work on my skin, and guess what? IT DOES! It takes off majority of my make-up and doesn't dry me out, winning! (7/10)

- Make Up Forever Mist & Fix: When I forget to put on my primer or when I know I'll have a long day, this has come to my rescue. It keeps my make-up in tact and allows me to have that dewy finish every day without looking like a "cake face" (8/10)

What's in my work bag? Roots Large Grace in Africa Tribe

Happy March everyone! I feel like February passed right by me, but I guess that happens when your life is busy, right?

In October, I did a "What's in my purse?" post featuring my MBMJ Classic Q Natasha. This time around, I've decided to empty out my work bag and show you guys what's in it. I've been using my Large Grace Bag from Roots (Retail $348 CD) recently as my go-to work purse and I even featured it on my February Faves, so let's get started ....

L to R / Top to Bottom:

- iPad Mini: Games, books and entertainment all in one touch, probably one of my best investments and a work bag staple!

- Moleskin Agenda/Notebook: I carry this around with me on the daily basis, specially to work. I have a separate agenda for work and my personal life and I know, you can just input it in to your phone, but there's something about writing down what you're doing for the day that gives me great pleasure.

- Lou Lou Magazine (March 2014): I got this in the mail so I`ve been carrying it around with me. Working in fashion retail, you really need to stay abreast of trends and "what's hot or not".

- iPad and iPhone 5 charger: When you've got electronics, never leave your house without the charger! I've learned my lesson a few times prior.

- Sunglasses: my favourite RayBan aviators with gold hardware and black lenses. Staple bag essential and a classic.

- Roller ball perfume: This one is in Ralph Lauren Polo Pony Collection Women's # 4 it's been my signature scent all winter long and it keeps me smelling good after an 8-10 hour shift at work.

- Dune Electronic Cigarette: I've been sick so I can't smoke real cigarettes so this will do, it also doesn't take up much space.

- Work Keys: Essential for getting in to work and opening and closing the store!

- Headphones: I'm currently working 2 locations so this is essential when I am travelling on the subway or when I forget my gym headphones and I'm headed to the gym.

- Emergency Pouch: This Kate Spade pouch serves as a holder for all things I may or may not need! If you'd like me to do a "What's in my Emergency Kit" post, leave a comment below!

- Ricola Lozenges: Like I said, I've been sick so this has been chilling in my purse just in case my throat decides to act up again.

- Lip balm and Lipstick: My current lip balm has been from YSL and the lipstick is the matte lip pencils from NARS this one is in the colour Damsel.

- Wallet: My current love for this Zip around wallet by Kate Spade is eternal! It has a lot of space and with the Tiffany blue colour, it's easy to find it in my purse!

- Hand sanitizer and lotion: My go to pocket bac from bath and both work has been Red Ruby and my favourite hand lotion has got to be Hand Food by soap and glory. It has been keeping my hand hydrated specially during this frigid winter Toronto has been having!

- Pens: 3 may be excessive but I loose them all the time, plus you never know when you're going to need to sign something or jot down a note or two!

- Card Holder: This one is from Umbra and holds all my points and reward cards! Trust me, I have a ton.

February Faves

It's that time again my favourite readers! I'm coming with my February favourites a bit earlier than usual and I've been loving new products and have really incorporated them into my every day routine, so enjoy! If you've ever tried any of these products, feel free to leave a review or comment! I'd love to hear from you guys.

- YSL Volumpte Sheer Candy: I have it in the colour 03 and it smells like grapefruit. I am in love with the subtle gloss and hydration it provides specially during this crazy cold winter weather in Toronto. A little piece of luxury every day didn't hurt anyone! (10/10)

- Olay Fresh Effects Long Live Moisture: A cross between a lotion and a gel, this moisturiser has been an essential part of my day routine before I apply my make up. It does what it promises and provides long lasting moisture for 24 hours. The silky finish also helps prep my skin. (9/10)

- Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation: The first few times, I didn't like the finish of this foundation but after awhile I realized how light it was and the finish does really brightens the look of my skin. It gives me enough coverage to even my skin tone and hide any red areas. I only use about a pump and a half and it lasts all day with the right primer. (7/10)

- The Perks of Being a Wallflower: This maybe a teen book but it always has a special place in my heart - it's well written and I've been re-reading it during my travels. If you're looking for a great book to read that doesn't take up too much of your time, i suggest grabbing this book! (10/10)

- The POREfessional Primer: I now know what the hype is all about! It blurs the look for my pores and it keeps my make-up on for hours. A little goes a long way and I love the feel of the product on my skin. It's simply, perfection! (10/10)

- Simple Kind-to-Eyes Revitalizing Eye Roll-On: I've been having trouble with puffiness under my eyes and I was on a hunt for a de-puffer. I stumbled upon another Simple product that does wonders! It's helped with my eyes by using it during the morning and night. (8/10)

- Victoria Secret Citrus Dream Body Spray: It doesn't have long lasting power but the smell is fabulous. It's a mixture of grapefruit and red lily. I pare it with Polo Ralph Lauren Pony Collection # 4 for women. It's been a signature every day scent. (10/10)

- Ole Henriksen African Red Tea foaming Cleanser: A cleanser that doesn't dry out my face, FINALLY! I picked this up at Sephora during their Black Friday sale and finally put it in to good use. I like using it as my morning cleanser because it gives me that fresh feeling and really leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. (9/10)

- Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Treatment: My friend Spence gave this to me as part of my Christmas present and since I've cut my hair, I have really appreciated this product even more. It keeps my ends hydrated and it doesn't have an oily finish. I have ombre ends so the key to maintaining healthy hair is keeping the ends moisturised. (10/10)

- Roots Canada Large Grace Bag: This bag is made out of full Italian leather in the ever so popular Tribe Africa colour and it's made in Canada. It`s a large hand bag and a modern and chic take on a woman`s briefcase. I`ve been using it for work, specially of how much I have been carrying in it. (10/10)

Get to know me: TMI Tag

One of my favourite YouTubers HeyClaire posted a video doing this tag and I am aware that this tag has been going around in the video world rather than the blogging world but, I thought I'd give it a shot. I tweaked the tag a little so it wasn't so lengthy and I also wanted to share some photo's from today - the sun was finally out after a harsh and frigid winter in Toronto so I took a photo of my breakfast using the natural light from my window.

What are you wearing? Yeezus merch t-shirt, Roots salt and pepper sweatpants, Tiffany & co. earrings, nike sports bra.

Ever been in love? I can honestly say, yes. Once in my life but that's a long story and a long time ago.

Ever had a terrible break-up? Not a terrible break-up, but an awkward one - the relationship only lasted a week or so.

How tall are you? My ID's say 5'2 but i think a smidge between 5'1 and 5'2

Do you have any tattoos? Yes, I have 5 and I've been thinking about adding two more.

Any piercings? I used to have 3 ear piercings on each ear plus 2 cartilage piercings and my eyebrow pierced. Currently, I only have a nose piercing and 1 ear lobe piercing on each ear.

Something you miss? I miss a few people I used to be really close with but, c'est la vie!

Favourite song? I don't really have one at the moment, mainly because I've been listening to top 40.

How old are you? Twenty-four.

Zodiac Sign? I'm a Virgo and even though I shouldn't believe in it, apparently I am a TRUE VIRGO.

Quality you look for in a partner? Passionate about something and driven. I also want someone who is truly understanding, it's been said that I have an overly strong personality which can come across as rude so definitely someone to balance and understand that.

How long does it take for you to shower? On average about 10 to 15 minutes, I don't over-do my showers because it dries out the skin.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? 45 minutes on a regular basis but depending on where I need to go, it takes me up to an hour (wardrobe changes).

What made you start blogging? I used to blog in high school using livejournal but it was more to release creative writing juices like short stories and poems. Then I began to want to incorporate writing in to my daily life and from then it progressed into adding everything i loved about writing, beauty and fashion.

Hope you guys enjoyed the tag and feel like you know me a little better! I'm tagging one of my favourite bloggers, FunFabFree and my YouTuber friend CuriousAboutMyCurls to do this tag!

Twenty Already?

Friday was my baby sisters 20th birthday and let me be the first one to throw on a shocked face emoji and yell out "YOU'RE 20 ALREADY?" I feel like it was yesterday that my mom and dad brought home a crying little baby and we met for the very first time. Now, she's 20 years old and I am glad that we are closer and more in tune with one another's attitudes.

To celebrate her 20th birthday, we went to Panera Bread for brunch at the Shops at Don mills. My sister ordered a Tortellini bowl, Ceasar salad with a side of kettle cooked chips and I ordered their mac n`cheese with a baguette and a caramel latte. It was so good! Panera definitely does comfort food the best.

We walked around a bit and went to Murale to check out some new make-up and pick a few things up. We also went to McEwan`s to grab some french macarons to satisfy our cravings!

After our trip to Shops at Don mills, we went to two other shopping centre`s before we got home. I hope my sister had an amazing 20th birthday! The celebrations aren`t over yet, love you!

OOTD: Purse (Speedy by Louis Vuitton), Boots (Ralph Lauren Polo Rangers), Socks (Roots Canada Cabin Socks), Jeggings (H&M), Homies T-shirt (Winners), Cardigan and Jacket (Aritzia), Scarf (Roots Canada)

January Faves

The time has come again and it's the first one for the new year! I'm excited to share some great new things that I've been using so here it goes ....

- Lush's lip scrub in mint julips: I've added this into my night time routine just before I slap on some lip balm before bed! I heard of this from my friend Ashley and it has helped make my matte lipstick look slicker than ever.
- Ponds cleanser and facial wipes: I've gone through 2 packs of these and have been using them religiously. It's my first step in taking off my make-up at night and it does an amazing job, even with waterproof mascara on!
- Gossip Girl Seasons: I was obsessed with Gossip Girl when it was airing on regular television so it's only fair that I am re-watching it season after season!
- Dune E-cigarettes: Slowly decreasing my cigarette in takes and this has been helping me. I have the vanilla flavour and it`s great because I can smoke it anywhere and I don`t have that cigarette stench lingering around my clothes! The large ones are equivalent to 2.5 packs.
- Bioderma Sensibio H2O: This mild cleanser/make-up remover does the trick. It doesn't dry out my skin and works well with my toner. It's a bit over priced but a great skin care essential.
- Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Tokyo: I've owned this for a year but recently fell in love with it again. Such a great nude pink that I could wear casually during the day or night. I usually top it off with a clear lip gloss to give it a little more umpf!
- Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash: Mild and straight to the point! When my face decides to go crazy and breakout, I always have this handy to help clear it out. It has salicylic acid that dries out the zits but not my entire face! This is my holy grail face wash.
- Real Techniques Travel Essentials: They were finally being sold at my local Walmart, or should I stay in stock! I will never turn back from these and I will never choose another brand over them.

What were some of your January favourites? Share them below!

Stay tuned for my skin care routine post coming soon.

Welcoming the New Year!

2013 has been a very interesting year! It has really helped me figure out who I am as a person and I can honestly say I have grown up a lot during the year. I have come to realize what I want out of my life and really do the things I love.

I'm looking forwards to the new year and what it has in store for me! My main focus and "New Years Resolution" this year is to laugh more and stress less. I have so many plans for the blog this year and to even expand into YouTube videos! My interest in social media will continue and I can't wait to share and grow with my readers this 2014!

Here's a look at what 2013 brought to my life ....

I hope everyone had an amazing New Year and here's to a great 2014!
